Video Sketch 02 – Self Portrait
This is the second in a series of video sketches for my Film Theory and Application class. The assignment was to deal somehow with the “issue of representation”.
When you’re doing a self portrait, you become very conscious of how you are representing yourself. It’s necessarily subjective. I thought it would be interesting to make a self portrait comprised of other people’s impressions of me. It offers a certain level of objectivity to the process. However, I edited this piece together from over two hours of material, so this same project could have been radically different.
So let me know what you think!
Or, watch it on Vimeo.
This is my first collaboration with the talented composer Jasper Blunk. I think the music added a lot to the project!

That’s my brother all right!
It’s really good, the only thing I’m wondering about is if they are supposed to be talking to you or about you? If they are supposed to be talking about you I would ask them to refer to you in the third person…
refreshing, rare portrait. I think refering to you in the first person makes it that special. and of course the honest analysis.
Thanks very much Sophia!
